Schumer criticizes Trump over AI video as shutdown nears

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer criticized President Trump for sharing an AI parody video of a recent White House press event. He said Trump was “trolling” online while Congress scrambled to avoid a government shutdown.

According to The Hill, Trump posted the doctored clip on Truth Social. It mocked Schumer’s joint appearance with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

AI spoof targets Schumer and Jeffries

The video shows Jeffries wearing an animated sombrero and a handlebar mustache. Latin-inspired music plays while a fake voice imitates Schumer.

“The president posted a fake video of Leader Jeffries and me with a sombrero, fake music, impersonating my voice through AI — it wasn’t me,” Schumer said on the Senate floor. He called the audio garbled and the phrasing stilted.

The video opens with a computer-generated line: “Look guys, there’s no way to sugar coat it, nobody likes Democrats anymore.” Schumer said the clip spread “more lies about health care and immigration.”

Shutdown fight frames the clash

“Hours away from a shutdown, which we don’t want, the American people don’t want, the president is busy trolling away on the internet like 10-year-old,” Schumer said. He warned Americans would blame Trump if the government closes.

The post reflects tense talks over a funding deal. The Hill reported the two sides remain far apart on government funding.

Democrats react to the repost

Jeffries said the repost was “designed to be a malignant distraction from people who are determined to continue to rip health care away from the American people,” in an MSNBC interview cited by The Hill.

On Monday, Schumer told reporters that Trump seemed open to addressing rising health insurance costs in a White House meeting with Democrats. But the AI spoof raised new friction as the deadline nears.

The Hill linked to the video on Truth Social and to related coverage. It described the clip as an AI-generated parody with altered visuals and voice.

Schumer stressed that the video was “fake.” He said the president should focus on funding talks instead of online posts.
