OpenAI aims to certify 10 million Americans for AI jobs by 2030

OpenAI outlined plans for an AI-driven jobs platform aimed at helping workers who may lose roles to automation retrain and connect with employers seeking AI skills. The initiative pairs AI-powered instruction with certifications intended to prepare candidates for roles that leverage artificial intelligence.

OpenAI’s plan and partnerships

The company announced the OpenAI Jobs Platform in partnership with Walmart, John Deere, and Accenture, positioning the program to match workers who want to level up their AI skills with organizations actively seeking such candidates. According to Sherwood News, OpenAI framed the effort as both a response to disruption and a pathway to new opportunities.

In a blog post, OpenAI wrote that “AI will also be disruptive. Jobs will look different, companies will have to adapt, and all of us—from shift workers to CEOs—will have to learn how to work in new ways.” The company added that while it cannot eliminate disruption, it aims to “help more people become fluent in AI and connect them with companies that need their skills, to give people more economic opportunities.”

Training, certification, and scale

AI-powered instruction and targets

OpenAI said the platform will use AI-powered instruction to deliver training that culminates in certification. The company stated it is committing to certifying 10 million Americans on its platform by 2030. This certification component is intended to standardize and signal proficiency for candidates seeking roles that rely on AI tools and workflows.

According to OpenAI’s announcement, the platform will focus on connecting newly trained candidates with employers that value these credentials. The effort is designed to address the reality that “jobs will look different” as AI reshapes tasks and processes across industries, while giving individuals structured pathways to acquire and demonstrate relevant skills.

Sherwood News reported that the OpenAI Jobs Platform is intended to both retrain workers and match them to companies looking for AI-proficient talent, including the named partners. The company’s stated commitment to broad certification aims to create a sizable pool of job seekers prepared for roles that incorporate AI, while providing employers with a streamlined way to identify trained candidates.
