Nvidia CEO warns China may win AI race over US

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang warned that China will beat the United States in artificial intelligence development. He made the comments at the Financial Times‘ Future of AI Summit. The remarks highlight tensions between US export controls and global AI competition.

Export Rules Hurt US Competitiveness

According to Yahoo Finance, Huang said China is going to win the AI race. He argued that US policies blocking Nvidia from serving Chinese developers hurt American interests. The CEO said a policy that causes America to lose half the world’s AI developers is not beneficial in the long term.

Huang wants the world built on American tech stack. But he also needs to be in China to win their developers. He told a conference in Washington last month that America should win the AI race. Yet he stressed that cutting off China’s massive developer base hurts the US more than it helps.

Trump Limits Advanced Chip Sales

President Donald Trump said in a Sunday interview that Nvidia’s most advanced Blackwell chips should go exclusively to American customers. He added that Washington would allow China to engage with Nvidia but not in terms of the most advanced semiconductors. Nvidia has not applied for US export licenses to sell the chips in China. The company cited Beijing’s stance toward Nvidia as the reason.

Tech Rivalry Intensifies

China’s access to advanced AI chips remains a flashpoint in its tech rivalry with the United States. Both nations compete for supremacy in cutting-edge computing and artificial intelligence. Nvidia is the world’s most valuable company by market capitalization. Its chips are critical for AI development globally.

Huang lamented in October that the Chinese government has shut Nvidia out of its market. He said the US can win the AI battle if the world runs on Nvidia systems. But current restrictions prevent that outcome. The CEO believes American tech leadership depends on serving developers worldwide.
