Apple has opened preorders for its updated 14-inch MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models, both powered by the new M5 processor. According to The Verge, the devices will launch on October 22nd with pricing starting at $1,599 for the MacBook Pro and $999 for the 11-inch iPad Pro.
M5 Chip Brings Performance Gains
The M5 processor delivers faster performance than the previous M4 chip. Apple says the new chip handles graphically demanding applications better. The company also claims the M5 excels at AI-based tasks because its 10-core GPU includes a neural accelerator in each core.
Memory bandwidth has increased to 153Gbps compared to the M4’s 120Gbps. Apple reports that the 10-core M5’s multithreaded performance is 20 percent faster than the M4. The base MacBook Pro still starts with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
MacBook Pro Specs Remain Mostly Unchanged
Most design elements carry over from last year’s model. The new MacBook Pro keeps the same display resolution, ports, battery, webcam, networking specs, and speakers. The 14-inch laptop starts at $1,599, while upgraded configurations with 1TB of storage begin at $1,799.
iPad Pro Gets M5 Upgrade
The iPad Pro lineup also receives the M5 chip. The base 11-inch model starts at $999. The 13-inch version begins at $1,299. Both tablets are available for preorder now from Apple and Amazon.
All three devices ship on Wednesday, October 22nd. Customers can order directly from Apple or through Amazon. The updates focus mainly on the processor upgrade rather than major design changes.
Apple positions these releases as incremental improvements to its existing product lines. The company emphasizes the M5’s better AI performance and faster multithreaded processing. The devices maintain their previous form factors and most hardware specifications.
