Netflix posted a director of generative AI for gaming role. The company wants a leader to apply Gen AI across its games portfolio and studios. The Los Angeles job lists pay between $430,000 and $840,000.
Role aims to guide Gen AI across Netflix Games
According to Kotaku, the listing says the director will define and lead the Gen AI strategy across Netflix Games. The person will help build core infrastructure and player-facing features. The role will also find chances to use Gen AI for new experiences and to improve workflows and pipelines.
The listing was shared on Bluesky by comic writer and artist Kendra Wells. Netflix posted it in September, and it is onsite in Los Angeles, California. The salary band appears due to state pay disclosure rules.
Netflix’s gaming push still lacks a clear shape. The company is exploring tools and features while it builds its in-house teams. This role signals a plan to make Gen AI part of both development and game design.
Leadership changes and evolving strategy
Mike Verdu, the division’s previous boss, held the title VP of GenAI for Games. He left the company earlier this year. In a 2024 LinkedIn post quoted by Kotaku, Verdu wrote that many view the tech with fear, but he saw its potential for new player experiences. He said the industry would need to adapt and change.
Former Epic Games executive Alain Tascan took over in March. He said Netflix’s evolving gaming strategy would focus on party games and narrative games. It would also include quick mobile adaptations of hit franchises.
Upcoming releases and studio shifts
Kotaku reports that Netflix plans to launch its first Smart TV games later this year. The company also has Spirit Crossing, a cozy MMO sim that mixes Animal Crossing and Studio Ghibli vibes. Netflix walked away from AAA blockbuster gaming ambitions last year.
Earlier this year, Netflix laid off developers at Night School Studio, the Oxenfree maker. Kotaku notes those workers likely were not near the high end of this new role’s pay. The new director would lead Gen AI work across multiple studios and projects.
The posting frames Gen AI as a way to improve both pipelines and player features. It suggests a push to tie experimental tech to practical game development needs across Netflix’s portfolio.
