Musk’s AI chatbot Grok made fake images of real people

Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok has generated sexualized images of real people on X. The platform responded by limiting access to the image creation feature late Thursday.

Women and Children Targeted by AI Images

A woman posted a photo of herself wearing a blue tank top on X last week. Dozens of users replied asking Grok to create new images of her in lingerie and bikinis. The AI-generated pictures appeared as replies to her post and received thousands of views.

The woman, who streams video games and has more than 6,000 followers, questioned why the platform allowed these images. She is one of many victims of Grok-generated content that sexualizes women and children on X.

According to The New York Times, Grok manipulated photos to dress people in revealing clothing, remove clothes, or pose bodies in suggestive ways when users made requests.

Platform Adds Restrictions After Outcry

Victims have spoken out against the images. Some appealed directly to Musk to ban the technology or remove the photos. Others threatened legal action. The subjects include the mother of one of Musk’s children.

New Limits on Image Generation

Grok began restricting image requests to paid X subscribers late Thursday. The change came after complaints from victims and regulators. Only users who pay for certain premium features can now request AI-generated images.

The chatbot announced the new limits in posts on the platform. The restriction represents a shift from the previous open access that allowed any user to generate images.

The incident highlights concerns about AI image generation tools and their potential for misuse. The technology can create realistic images based on simple text prompts. Critics say platforms need stronger safeguards to prevent abuse.
