Google is rolling out new agentic capabilities to AI Mode and expanding access to 180 additional countries and territories, bringing more proactive help directly into the search box. According to CNET, the update enables AI Mode not only to gather information but also to act on it, such as finding reservations, flights, and concert tickets, alongside new personalized recommendations and collaboration via link sharing.
Agentic actions arrive in AI Mode
Powered by DeepMind’s Project Mariner, the latest release pushes AI Mode beyond traditional results to completing tasks on a user’s behalf. Rather than opening multiple sites, users can ask for dinner options with details like cuisine, party size, time, and location, and AI Mode will surface real-time reservation slots. Google says it has partnered with OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, and several other companies to streamline the process so users don’t have to do the legwork themselves.
Most of these features are currently available as experiments and are primarily limited to premium AI subscribers. CNET notes that it may not take long before these capabilities become standard parts of the search experience, but for now, they require opting in through Google Labs. Google did not immediately respond to CNET’s request for further comment.
Personalization and collaboration expand
Recommendations tailored from past activity
Google is also testing personalized recommendations within AI Mode, starting with dining. The experiment uses past conversations with AI Mode and places interacted with on Search and Maps to provide suggestions tailored to individual preferences. This feature, like the agentic booking tools, is available in the US and requires enabling the specific experiment in Labs.
Collaboration is getting a boost through link sharing. Users can share a direct link to their AI Mode research when planning events such as vacations or parties. Recipients land on the latest AI Mode response and can continue the conversation independently to explore the topic further. The original sender retains control and can manage or delete shared links at any time.
Google’s expansion of AI Mode to 180 additional countries and territories broadens access to these experiments, though availability depends on subscription status and opt-in via Labs. CNET’s report underscores that the additions point toward a more agentic AI future accessible from a familiar starting point: the search box.
