Google’s latest Made by Google event introduced a full slate of devices and features, from the Pixel 10 lineup to a new foldable and smartwatch, alongside updates to earbuds and camera capabilities. The presentation leaned into a late-night format led by Jimmy Kimmel with guests from media and sports, highlighting key announcements and demos. According to CNET, Google also shared timing details, pricing highlights, and new AI-powered tools across its ecosystem.

Pixel hardware headlines the show

Preorders for the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL begin today, with retail availability and shipping starting August 28. The Pixel 10 phones also support Qi2 magnetic charging; presenters noted the magnet array and referred to Apple’s system before clarifying the Pixel implementation is called Pixelsnap, which should work with accessories made for Apple’s ecosystem.

Google also revealed the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, describing improved durability with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. CNET characterized this as addressing a common “Achilles Hinge” for foldables by guarding against small particulates like sand.

Wearables saw a bump as well. The Pixel Watch 4 adds fitness options such as real-time guidance while exercising and background activity detection if a workout isn’t manually started. It is described as the only smartwatch that can detect a loss of pulse and automatically call emergency services.

Audio upgrades and AI-powered features

New earbuds and gestures

Pixel Buds 2a join the lineup as a more affordable $130 option with active noise cancellation, a smaller and lighter design, and a twist-to-adjust stabilizer for fit. Pixel Buds Pro 2 owners will receive a software update enabling head-gesture controls to answer calls or send them to voicemail with a nod or a shake.

On-device intelligence featured prominently. Magic Cue, a Gemini-based assistant, can scan earlier messages, emails and photos to surface details like reservation or flight times, and it runs on the Pixel device so sensitive data isn’t sent to the cloud, according to CNET.

For photography, Pro Res Zoom on the Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL extends zoom up to 100x by using generative AI beyond 30x to produce sharper images than typical digital zoom upscaling. Camera Coach was demonstrated live, with podcaster Alex Cooper showing how the feature can encourage better photos.

Rounding out regional news, Google said the Pixel 10 will be available for sale in Mexico for the first time. CNET noted the event mixed product debuts with hands-on impressions and short demos, with more updates promised as coverage continues.
