Fortnite players angry after finding AI art in new update

Fortnite’s Chapter 7 update has sparked anger among players who believe some new graphics were made using artificial intelligence. The update brought a Kill Bill partnership and a revised Pussy Wagon vehicle, but those additions are now overshadowed by community concerns about AI-generated visuals.

Nine-Toed Yeti Poster Raises Alarm

According to International Business Times, the key evidence is a yeti poster showing a creature with nine toes instead of ten. The image depicts a yeti resting in a net with its feet hanging down. AI tools still struggle to create realistic hands and feet, making this error a telltale sign.

Several other posters and artworks are drawing criticism for smudged quality often linked to AI work. An anime-style decal featuring Marty McFly also raised doubts. It resembles the Ghibli-style AI copies that circulated online recently.

One user on a discussion board noted that the Marty McFly spray is part of the Battle Pass. Players pay for that content. Some fans say they plan to stop playing if Epic Games continues using AI.

Community Calls for Human Artists

Players have shared their concerns across Reddit threads. One popular post titled „Say ‚No‘ to AI slop, a billion-dollar company should have no problem supporting real artists for real art“ details suspected AI graphics. Some members suggest a boycott until Epic changes its approach.

Tim Sweeney Faces Criticism

Tim Sweeney, the company’s chief executive, recently suggested AI would be used in every aspect of game development. His remarks led to intense scrutiny on Reddit. One user asked why Sweeney himself could not be replaced by AI if the technology can do so much work.

Another frustrated player commented that they only want AI for mundane tasks that slow down development, not creative elements. They argued that corporations want AI for everything so they do not have to employ a workforce.

Other users pointed out environmental concerns and artistic theft. One player said generative AI is horrible for the environment and steals from artists. Another concluded that if people do not take a stance against AI now, future skins and music will be significantly worse because they are made by AI.

The term „AI slop“ now describes bland graphics created by software rather than real people. Players say these visuals feature misshapen hands, inconsistent faces, and overly smooth surfaces. One social media user said the game used to feel curated but now feels auto-generated.
