AI girlfriend platforms are multiplying, blending chatbots with explicit images and videos. Developers say they cut exploitation in the adult industry. Critics warn they promote stereotypes and risky behavior.
Developers pitch safety and scale
At the TES adult industry conference in Prague last month, attendees saw many new sites that sell AI relationships and strip shows for tokens. According to the Guardian, founders say AI performers do not get sick or humiliated, and do not face trafficking.
“Do you prefer your porn with a lot of abuse and human trafficking, or would you rather talk to an AI?” asked Steve Jones, who runs an AI porn site. He said AI “doesn’t get humiliated” and will not kill itself.
Sites let users pick from ready-made girlfriends, often smiling white women in their early 20s. They can also build their own companion, choosing profession, personality, age, hair, eyes, skin, and breast size.
One site lists roles from film star and yoga teacher to lawyer and gynaecologist. Personality presets include “submissive: obedient, yielding and happy to follow,” and “innocent: optimistic, naive, and sees world with wonder.”
Moderation and business models
Developers discussed moderation to block illegal content, with keyword alarms like “kid” or “little sister.” Many sites still let users dress AI girlfriends in school uniforms.
A Candy.ai employee said the service offers porn and deep chats, based on user needs. Some AI partners undress at once, while others refuse until the user builds trust. “It’s like a game,” he said.
Advances in large language models and AI image tools power these services. Short AI videos are spreading, and demand is highest among 18-24 users who grew up with games and avatars.
Critics warn of harmful patterns
Laura Bates writes that AI companions are “programmed to be nice and pliant and subservient and tell you what you want to hear.” She argues they embed unhelpful stereotypes.
Marketing voices also worry. An Ashley Madison executive asked how to compete with sites that “allow you to build your own fantasy” rather than form a real connection.
Presenters showed progress in realistic skin textures and asymmetries. One chief executive said his company licenses images of adult performers to create AI twins, cutting costs and earning income without new shoots.
Jones said AI can help younger people practice social skills. He added that people may say abusive things to AI that they would not say to a real person.
