Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman are supporting a new super PAC network, Leading the Future, aimed at electing candidates who favor policies supportive of artificial intelligence. According to Inc., the effort seeks to shape the policy environment around AI while emphasizing national competitiveness.

Leading the Future targets pro-AI policy wins

Collin McCune, head of legal affairs at Andreessen Horowitz, announced the initiative on social media, stating that AI can drive economic growth, create jobs, and boost productivity across sectors. He framed the initiative as part of a broader competition with China, saying that without the right policies, the U.S. risks ceding the future of AI along with economic strength and national security.

Leading the Future filed its initial paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on August 15, and as of now has not submitted financial disclosures, Inc. reported. The publication, citing The Wall Street Journal, noted that the broader network of AI-focused super PACs supporting this agenda has amassed more than $100 million.

AI regulation and political momentum

Debate over state vs. federal rules

Inc. reports that earlier this year the Trump White House sought to include a 10-year moratorium on state regulation of AI development and use in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act; the provision was later removed following pushback from elected officials, including some Republicans. Some AI leaders, such as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, have expressed concern about a patchwork of state rules complicating the technology’s development.

The regulation of AI has remained a focal point for lawmakers. Inc. notes that the Trump administration nullified a previous executive order from former President Joe Biden that sought to establish a regulatory framework for AI development. The administration has positioned itself as an ally to leading AI developers and emphasized urgency in competing with China in its recent AI action plan.

Inc. adds that Leading the Future underscores how Silicon Valley is leveraging financial resources to influence policy. Andreessen Horowitz previously helped contribute millions to Fairshake PAC, which supported pro-cryptocurrency candidates in 2024. In this context, the new network signals sustained political engagement around AI policy and national competitiveness.
